Description
2023 Lo-Fi Chardonnay – Santa Barbara County
A Chardonnay with a little bit of a wild side. This is certainly not your typical California Chardonnay. Slightly funky, tangy, and savory, with a rich, textured mouthfeel and a rustic character reminiscent of some of the more unconventional Chardonnays from France’s Jura region.
Hand-harvested from sustainably farmed vineyards, the grapes were whole-cluster pressed and settled for 48 hours before being transferred to barrel and concrete amphora. Fermentation took place naturally with native yeasts, followed by partial malolactic fermentation from naturally occurring bacteria.
The wine spent seven months in concrete amphora before being racked to neutral French oak barrels for an additional eleven months. Just 35 ppm of SO₂ was added prior to bottling.
The wine has developed a slight haze and some natural sediment in the bottle. A unique expression of Chardonnay with a little more personality than usual.
